SEASPECS

SeaSpecs sport eyewear has joined the Tierra y Mar crew for the upcoming expedition. These guys will be providing some high quality sport glasses, polarized and with permanent lashes attached for their safekeeping during dynamic sea conditions - of which I am sure Newfoundland will provide much of. I am very proud to be representing this company along the North Atlantic. The design of the eyewear is high quality and especsially due to my own 'special' requirements for eye protection, Sea Specs will fill that niche nicely.

Check em out

www.seaspecs.com

In reflection of the loss of the Cougar Helicopter, Flight 491, we here at Tierra y Mar havce developed a project to be included in our expedition to help honour the memory of the the crew lost on board. We will be announcing this project in the near future.

We are still awaiting delivery of our boats from NELO, the INUK and the NAVIGATOR. Still waiting on final word from what I beleive to be our final sponsor, I will announce that as soon as I know.

We are very excited to get this expedition started, beginning with the Merasheen trip in mid may followed by the Avalon trip in early July.

I've been watching the weather closely around the Avalon and am not surprised by what I see. I just hope for those of you who do follow our blog, and are paddlers in Newfoundland that you are finding ample opportunities to get out on the water and enjoy those beautiful and pristine shorelines.

We are extremely excited to give local paddlers chances to demo the boats that have been donated by NELO. We invite you to share in our enthusiasm in playing with these extremly high quality craft. I know there is little to no representation of NELO in Newfoundland, and this is a big priority to change for us.

Sincerely,

James Kelly

To highlight exactly what the plan is on this expedition, to ensure that all bays are included in the trip. One of the things we are stumbing with in regards to the logistics and planning of the trip is the amount of islands to be included. Of course weather conditions will cause problems in ensuring that ALL islands around the Avalon are to be paddled on the outside. This of course would be ideal to do if we had the time to do so.

Therefore, we will make all attempts to include in our journey whatever islands, weather systems will allow for us to paddle outside of. Larger islands of course, Kellys Island and Bell Island will definitely be included in the navigation.

Collections of stories and folklore, and history is to be collected from locals around the area, and we would welcome any anecdotes that you may have to offer. If you think you have a story that may be funny, signifigant or you just plain want to share it with us, to help in highlighting this beautiful portion of Newfoundland, drop us a line through email.

Ive been watching the weather systems back home too, first day of spring and the island is in the midst of a snowfall warning with thirty to forty cm of snow in the forecast.

Ah...I miss Newfoundland.

James Kelly
